I have never had a daughter,
but I've often cherished the thought,
of smiles so bright and sparkly,
and visions of dresses bought,
of pig-tailed hair in ribbons,
bouncy curls, too,
Of dainty laced slips and dresses,
and shiny, patent-leathered shoes.
I have never had a daughter,
but it never hurts to dream,
of ruffled beds and pillows,
and the perfect color schemes,
of teddy bears, Victorian dolls,
and serving up a tea for just us two,
of playing little dress up games,
wearing Mommy's favorite high-heeled shoes.
I have never had a daughter, but I can always dream
of spending happy times together,
sharing secrets and girlish things,
of talking about the latest styles,
of boyfriends, proms, and rings.
I have never had a daughter,
to talk with spiritually,
to explain all about My Lord Jesus,
and how much He means to me.
I may never have a daughter,
but I shall not complain,
Because God gave to me a very fine son,
and I'm really proud of him.
He has filled my life, with joy and laughter,
a son of whom I'm proud to claim.
I may never have a daughter,
but my dream will always be,
that when my son chooses to marry,
his wife will become a "daughter" to me.
