The Thirsty Woman

John 4:1-42

The Thirsty Woman

Like the woman alone at the well, seeking water, there are still those who are seeking today, in need of water that will not only quench their thirst, but their souls, as well.

As she visited with Jesus, she received understanding, not condemnation, emotional strength, and the unconditional love that Our Lord Jesus extended and offered her that day, and His plan of eternal salvation.

She had been involved with one relationship after another, but still thirsty for the kind of love that would inspire her and induce her to search for a better life, a better way.

As she conversed with Jesus, she came to realize all that she had been missing, and the healing which needed to take place within herself.

Her thirst became that for a different water, the water which flows from the river of life.

I pray, today, that if you are thirsty, seeking, you will find the same unconditional love that she found that day, the healing and the strength to make your life more meaningful, and filled with His purpose for you, His plans for you.

Jesus sat alone that day, waiting by Jacob's well.
Even though thirsty, He didn't take a drink.
Rather, He waited for a woman to come by,
who was hurting, and on the brink.

He knew all about her problems,
the many husbands that she had had.
He explained to her about His living water,
and how she needed it, instead.

Her heart was confused, but filled with love
which she had never known before.
She knew this Stranger was anointed,
and yearned to know even more.

He comforted her with His compassion,
and counseled her, with wisdom divine.
She couldn't wait to go tell the others,
and left her water jar behind.

She spread the news all around town,
and brought some back to see.
The Prophet, the Savior, the Messiah,
this Man, from Galilee.

Her heart was changed, her faith restored,
She no longer thirsted for the water in the well.
She had received a drink of the living water,
and she went about, carrying the good news to tell.
