I Want You to Know

I Want You to Know

Recently, being told about an elderly lady dying in a nursing home, I was able to conjure up in my mind, something that perhaps a person might say to a precious husband or wife, when facing these circumstances. I think it would go something like this:

I Want You to Know

I have been promised not a tomorrow,
so I must make the most of today.
I must release my love in words,
that I have so wanted to say.

I must tell you that I love you,
and how much you mean to me.
I need to touch you just once more,
and hold you tenderly.

I need to watch you for a little while,
I need to hear your voice.
I need to see that beautiful smile,
and hear that delightful giggle of joy.

I want to freeze in the spaces of Time,
a moment we've shared together.
I promised to keep you for better or worse,
and I know now, that it all was for the better.

There were no bad times,
those were only days of growth.
And God in His wisdom,
sent me the helper that I would need the most.

When this day is over,
and my time is through,
I want you to know
how very much, I have loved you.

So that, if I go,
and have to soon depart,
You will know of all the love,
I have carried deep in my heart.
